  • 06/04/11…Lea Park residents invited to have their say about Sainsbury’s plan for Thame

The Lea Park Residents? Association in Thame, is seeking the views of all residents on the estate about Sainsbury’s proposal to build a supermarket on the Cattlemarket site.

On Thursday, April 14, at Chinnor Rugby Club at 7.30 pm, the Association is holding its AGM and the Cattle Market development is on the agenda. All members of the Association will have an opportunity to express their opinion.

Angela Willson, Chair of LPRA, said: ?Although Sainsbury?s have given us the chance to give our views on the plans, only they and their agents, GKA, will actually know the results. The residents of Lea Park need to be able to express their opinions openly so that we can all hear one another?s views and then be able to uphold a common stance if this becomes a planning issue.?

Those attending the meeting will also be able to see the Concept Masterplan for Site F (the pig field) prepared by Jeffrey Charles Emmett Planning & Development Consultancy.

Angela also said that the Association will also be looking for new members of the committee: “… so that it can continue to be actively involved in improving the estate and supporting residents in issues relating to the local councils and central Government.”

PUPILS from John Hampden Primary School in Thame this week applied the finishing touches to the show home garden at the new Windmill Place development in the town, ahead of the show home launch this weekend.

The pupils were joined by the Mayor of Thame, Cllr Adam Buckland, who officially opened the garden which was inspired by the designs of the pupils themselves.

The garden includes features such as a bird bath, a bird table, a bench and various flower types which are popular with bees and butterflies. The children also planted a sunflower each with the Mayor and have been invited to send in pictures of their fully grown flowers.

Paul Moran, Sales Director for David Wilson Homes Southern, commented: ?Our thanks go to the pupils at John Hampden Primary School for their fantastic input and creative ideas for the show home garden at Windmill Place. I understand that the bird bath already has regular visitors and the garden looks wonderful.?

Jo Tiddy, organiser of the gardening club at John Hampden School, added: ?It?s great for our pupils to get hands on experience like this and see some of their ideas being used in a real garden. The pupils really enjoyed unveiling the gardens with the Mayor and we thank David Wilson Homes for including us in their plans here at Windmill Place. We will take our planted sunflowers back to school and see how tall they will grow.?

One of the pupils suggested that her sunflower will grow as tall as the houses at the development.

Paul added: ?We are very excited to be finally opening the doors to Windmill Place this weekend. We have delighted to have already sold four without purchasers having had the chance to view anything and so expect sales to further increase once people have something to see.?

  • 04/04/11…Thame business woman joins fitness guru for Midnight Walk

A THAME business woman is to join forces with Rosemary Conley CBE and hundreds of other local women in supporting the Florence Nightingale Hospice charity’s Gemstone Midnight Walk in July.

Thame company, Kismet Jewellers of Buttermarket, Thame, is lending its support to this year?s Florence Nightingale ?Gemstone Midnight Walk? ? with owner Yvette Cundy set to take part in the event for a second-year running and encourage more local ladies to get involved.

It is hoped that the women-only event, taking place on Saturday July 16th in Aylesbury, will see over 750 ladies pounding the streets at Midnight (in a bid to break last year?s record of 500 participants) – undertaking a six or 12-mile walking challenge around Aylesbury, starting from Aylesbury College, to help raise money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity (FNHC), which provides comprehensive care and support through in-patient and at-home services to local families affected by life-limiting illness.

Commenting on the forthcoming Florence Nightingale Gemstone Midnight Walk, Yvette said: ?My husband visited the Florence Nightingale Hospice a few years ago following our involvement with Thame?s Got Talent, and had such a good feeling about the place, we decided anything we do Charity-wise will always be in support of the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity; the devotion of everyone involved is immeasurable, and bearing in mind we are all touched by cancer at some stage in our lives, here was a Charity that was really helping people to live with it.

?I shall be taking part in the Midnight Walk again this year,? said Yvette, who helped raise over
