  • Amputee To Cycle Across Cambodia

LANDMINE amputee, Chris Moon MBE, is planning to cycle Cambodia to raise funds for a Thame-based charity.
Chris, who lost an arm and a leg while clearing landmines in Mozambique, is setting off to cycle across Cambodia on August 31, hoping to raise thousands of pounds in support of Thame charity, the Cambodia Trust.
Chris’s fundraising will help the Trust to provide artificial limbs for Cambodian landmine survivors. He explained: “In 1993 I was clearing landmines for a charity in Cambodia and I saw the terrible circumstances in which Cambodian, disabled people
    struggled to survive.
“In 1995 I learned the importance of artificial limbs when I lost my lower right arm and leg walking in a supposedly clear area in a minefield in Mozambique.”

Chris Moon has undertaken a number of extreme challenges to raise funds for the Cambodia Trust, including a 300-mile run across Death Valley.
“I?ve witnessed the work of the Cambodia Trust first hand for more than ten years. It?s a very worthy organisation doing excellent work,? he says.

  • Thame Post Boxes To Be Relocated

TWO Thame post boxes, including one removed because of vandalism, are to be relocated.
The post box in Park Street, currently situated in front of the recently-closed Post Office, is to be moved to a position on the pavement, outside the Sainsbury store further up the road.
The move is to be made at the request of the new owners of the old post office at 26 Park Street, who intend to use the building as a residence.

The post box in Wellington Street, removed some months ago after it was vandalised, is to be replaced at the request of residents in the area. Its location will be on the grass verge to the left of its previous position.

Thame Town Council has approved the changes, with the proviso that the Park Street box be of the same style as the existing one, and that the Wellingston Street box be of adequate size and with a wide enough aperture to accommodate the post of local businesses as well as local residents.

The time scale for both post boxes is four to five months.

  • No Comment From ‘Silly Celebrity’ Boris

THAME’S MP, Boris Johnson, has declined to comment after coming second in a recent Poll to find Britain’s Silliest Celebrity.
This dubious honour was bestowed on Boris after 2000 ‘Readers Digest’ readers were asked to vote for who they considered to be our nation’s silliest celebrity.
Looney luminary, Boris was pipped at the post by Black Sabath rock star turned nuttiest dad, Ozzie Osborne, following the reality TV series that recorded the ups and downs of his family’s life.

Despite some less controlled moments, like his below-the-belt rugby tackle of an opponent during a charity football match, allegedly driving around in an open-topped sports car with his two sons strapped in one seat belt and his appearances on comedy programmes like ‘Have I got news for you’, Boris is generally well respected for his Constituency work and holds a place in the affections of many of his constituents who may or may not share his politics.

  • Never Mind The Buzzcocks ! – Chilton Music Fest Update

‘THE Gift’ help, Charity Music Festival out of a Jam! Best unsigned bands in Britain get shown the way by one of the best.
Chilton Music Festival, with all of its proceeds going to the British Heart Foundation, will happen on Saturday, September 2, thanks to the ?Gift?.
The festival was always going to have a laid back, non commercial vibe, after some advice from Glastonbury?s founder, Mr Michael Eavis.
?We wanted to get the very best unsigned bands in the country, along with some of the excellent talent in South Central Britain and top it all off with an experienced and influential band, that everybody knows and loves?, said festival organisers. ?When the Buzzcocks offered their services FoC, we were delighted. However travel logistics between European festivals and essential promotional work for their new album ?Flat Pack Philosophy? meant that they had to pull out of this year?s proceedings.
However, all was not lost and at the 11th hour Rick Buckler Esq, drummer of the legendary and influential Jam, confirmed his involvement.

Rick?s new band the Gift, playing their own original material along with all the old Jam classics ?Going Underground?, ?Down in the tube station at Midnight? and ?That?s Entertainment? to name but a few, will be there to head up a great lineup of acts, as well as former Boo-Radleys? front-man Sice, with his latest music outfit Paperlung, as championed by Ms Janice Long on BBC Radio Two.
Add to this the very Best Unsigned Bands in Britain, as discovered via new online phenomenon WWW.TOURDATES.CO.UK and a healthy inclusion of local talent, Chilton Music Festival is shaping up to be a fantastic inaugural event and looks set to become one of the more special gigs on the British Summer Music calendar.

Organisers have thrown in all the usual festival fayre, with bucking broncos, family activities, jewelry and clothes stalls, and bouncy castles galore, available during the day to keep the family happy:
