Thame Cycling and Walking Map To Be Launched
THE final touches are being put to Thame’s first local map, dedicated to cycling and walking routes around and out of the town.
The map will include cycling and walking routes from the warren-like Lea Park Estate, to the town centre, which it is hoped by its promotors, The 21st Century Thame Partnership, will encourage people who live there to leave their cars at home when they need to pop into town. The map should also appeal to visitors to the town who might like to explore Thame and the surrounding villages, by bike or on foot. It includes places of interest to visit, places of refreshment, public conveniences and lots of other relevant information to ensure a great, green day out in and around our town.
The Thame Cycling and Walking Map will be launched at an ‘All About Bikes’ event on Sunday, September 16, at Lord Williams’s Lower school, in Towersey Road, Thame.
The event begins at 10am and will last for a couple of hours, and will include opportunities to buy, sell or swap bikes. There will be Free bike postcoding, a bike repair van and information about cycle helmets, their correct use and fitting.
Anyone selling a bike is asked to take it along labelled with a price and contact details of the owner.
For more information call Alison Isherwood on 01844 215215, or email her: ai@221stcenturythame.org.uk
Sponsors of the map include Thame Town Council and Oxfordshire County Council. It is being printed and designed by Pindar Press.

All Livestock Classes Cancelled At Thame Show
ALL livestock classes in this year’s Thame Show have had to be cancelled, but the show’s organisers are determined that the show will still be able to offer a great day out for visitors.
The organisers of the annual Oxfordshire County and Thame Show, said: “Following the recent outbreak of ‘Foot and Mouth’ in the Surrey Area, the organisors of the Thame Show, have been in constant touch with DEFRA regarding our livestock section for the 2007 show. As the movement order for Animal Gatherings has not been lifted at this present time, The Committee have regrettably decided to CANCEL ALL LIVESTOCK classes for this year.
“The rest of the show will still be going ahead as planned and we hope that everyone will come along and have an enjoyable day.”
The main attraction this year will be the Musical Ride of the Household Cavalry, which will perform in the main ring. Other attractions for the whole family include displays of entries to the vegetable, fruit, flower and domestic classes; exhibition rabbits, caged birds and pigeons, an extensive craft market and trade stands from all over the country.

New Report On Thame’s CCTV
A NEW report, to be presented to South Oxfordshire District Council, has looked at the effectiveness of CCTV cameras, including those in Thame’s town centre.
The report shows that the 16 Thame cameras were involved in 121 incidents between April 2006 and April 2007, including incidents involving disturance, anti-social behaviour and those involving drugs.
Some of the incidents were following requests from police officers for camera operators to focus on incidents and others were picked up by the monitoring operators themselves.
As the year progressed, there were an increasing number of searches of recordings, following requests from the police, and a steady increase in the use of filmed material for use in evidence packs to be used by the police.
The report will be used to analyse the effectiveness of CCTV against crime and reducing the fear of crime, and used to reflect and see how improvements can be made. -
Final Show For Thame Players Stalwart
ONE of Thame Players’ longest serving actors is about to bow out in style, when he take the role of ‘Sir’ in Ronald Harwood’s play, The Dresser.
70 year-old David Bright has been acting for 40 years and has now decided to call it a day. But not before going out in a blaze of glory.
In ‘The Dresser’ he will play the part of an aging Shakespearean actor leading a troupe of actors touring the provinces in 1942. David has always seized the chance to play the Bard?s great parts, as well as other more contemporary classic roles. In this play he gets the chance to do both – as ‘Sir’ prepares for his 227th performance of King Lear.
The dresser in the title is Norman, who has for many years been constantly by Sir?s side to prepare him in whatever way is necessary for his next performance. Very much at the weary end of his career, Sir needs all the persuasion and cajoling Norman can provide to get on stage. The Dresser is based on Ronald Harwood?s own experience as dresser to Sir Donald Wolfit, one of the last great actor/managers. Although Harwood wrote many other plays, The Dresser is undoubtedly his finest work and the play is being performed by Thame Players at The Players Theatre in Nelson Street, Thame, between Tuesday, Septemer 11 and Saturday, 15, at 7.45pm each evening. Tickets cost between
