  • Designer bedroom refurb at The Dinton Hermit (Contributed)

FEBRUARY has seen the completion and launch of the newly refurbished bedrooms at The Dinton Hermit Inn, in the peaceful hamlet of Ford, near Aylesbury.

The Dinton Hermit was rescued from the receivers in May 2008 by Roger and Mariko Pratap, residents of Dinton in Buckinghamshire. Since then, they have been making improvements throughout the historic Inn, including redecorating of all the public areas and now the completion of this first phase of bedroom refurbishment, which sees the six Barn rooms completely refurbished.

Roger Pratap commented: “We are so pleased to be launching these newly refurbished bedrooms. The Dinton Hermit is a fabulous place to stay and now the bedrooms are surpassing the standards that our guests expect. In fact repeat guests who have stayed in the rooms are already requesting them again!”

The bedroom interiors have been designed by Elizabeth Warden and refurbished to a high standard in a classic contemporary scheme to complement the historic nature of the Dinton Hermit, whilst offering guests the comfort and style they expect. The rooms all feature brand new modern bathroom suites and flat screen televisions.

The Dinton Hermit is an historical inn dating back to the 17th Century. It is named after the legiondary Dinton hermit, a parliamentarian sympathiser during the Civil War, who was reputed to have been one of the executioners of King Charles I.

The Dinton Hermit is now open all day, every day. To book a room or a table for lunch or dinner you can contact The Dinton Hermit on 01296 747473 or email relax@dintonhermit.co.uk

  • Half-term workshop inspired by art exhibition

CHILDREN can use an art exhibition featuring sound, light and theatre as inspiration to build their own moving toy at The Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock this school half-term.

The Sharmanka Travelling Circus and Gothic Kinetic have used unusual mechanical objects and carved figures in the exhibition, which is performed at the Park Street museum from February 11 to March 29.

Children can inject a bit of creativity into their week off from school on Tuesday, February 17 by making their own toys at the museum from 2pm-4pm.

    Sculptures that ‘speak’

The sculptures ‘speak’, each detailing personal and cultural stories of life, death, cruelty and beauty.

Meanwhile, mechanical objects which include bicycle wheels and old domestic machinery move to create unforgettable sequences of light and sound in 30-minutes performances that are repeated hourly throughout the day.

    Exhibition’s Russian roots

Sharmanka – the Russian word for musical instrument the hurdy gurdy – is the brainchild of Russian-born artist Eduard Bersudky, theatre director Tatyana Jakovskya and light and sound designer Sergey Jakovsky.

Councillor Jim Couchman, Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social and Community Services, said: “This exhibition is very unusual and a really good opportunity to see a different form of art at The Oxfordshire Museum.

“We always have a wide range of exhibitions at The Oxfordshire Museum on a whole host of subjects which prove to be popular with visitors.”

  • New houses behind Money Spinner approved

PLANNING permission has been granted to build five cottages behind The Money Spinner, Cornmarket, Thame, despite opposition from Thame Town Council.

South Oxfordshire District Council’s Planning committee has givien planning and listed building consent for the part demolition of the existing rear projecting extension at the site, and for the erection of a new extension to form five, two bed Mews Cottages with services and facilities including
the construction of waste and re-cycling facilities and a cycle store.

The town council previously recommended refusal of the application on the grounds of it being: “Totally unsuitable backland development on a very narrow site, and “inadequate vehicle access and egress.”

  • Cuts in county’s road salting as stocks fall

FROM tonight only 29% of Oxfordshire’s roads will be salted in an effort to preserve dwindling stocks.

Oxfordshire County Council has ordered more salt but in the meantime, because of the uncertainties of weather conditions next week, is prioritising those roads it will treat. (The council usually grits 43% of the county’s roads)

All main roads that the council is responsible for will be salted, said the council today, as will the busiest ‘B’ roads. But the less used minor roads will not be salted.

The council has made assurances that it will continue to use snow ploughs on all the roads it usually clears, but has warned that motorists will have to take extra care on minor roads which could be very icy.

Very frosty conditions are expected in the county tonight and more sleet and snow for tomorrow.
