23/12/10……Thank you Thame for all your support – From Doreen Higgs
Dear Editor, I spent the first 66yrs of my life living and working in your area and have many long term friendships. I moved to Yorkshire four years ago, to a small rural village where I am very happy.
Unfortunatly just over a year ago I was diagonised with cancer and have spent this year having treatment.
During this year as well as my new friends here I have received so much support from my old friends in your area.Their letters, cards, emails and phone calls have really helped me keep going and I would like to say a big THANK YOU to them all.
My battle with this illness continues but it is a battle made easier by all the love and support of my friends both old and new.
I wish all my friends all the best for 2011.

23/12/10…..Walk out in the beautiful wintry Chilterns this Christmas
WHY not make the most of the snowy conditions by getting out into the beautiful wintry Chilterns countryside this Christmas? An invigorating walk is one of the best ways to work off the calories, shake away the cobwebs and give you a good appetite for the next meal! The Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is right on the doorstep and offers miles of footpaths through rolling valleys and winter woodlands. You could even leave the car at home and walk from the front door to avoid those icy roads.
This December it is 45 years since the Chilterns was designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). It is one of 46 AONBs in the UK and together with National Parks they make up the finest countryside we have.
A walk in your local bit of our beautiful countryside represents a great way to beat the Christmas travel blues and look after your wallet! Find out about lots of great walks at www.chilternsaonb.org/activities.asp where you can search by town or postcode.

22/12/10…Clear your paths please Thame shops!
DEAR Editor, I was reading the article saying shop locally to help local shopkeepers keep afloat over this really bad spell. Yes, I would if the shopkeepers and council would take 10-15 mins clearing the snow from the front on there shop.
I really do feel sorry for the old folk in Thame as they slip and slide their way all around the town.
It is so sad. We try to sell Thame all over the world yet we let our Thame folk down.

22/12/10….Warning to dog walkers after missing woman’s body found
FOLLOWING three incidents recently where the Fire and Rescue Service have been called out to rescue a dog that had fallen through thin ice, dog owners are being warned about the dangers of thin ice.
Just this afternoon, a woman’s body, believed to be that of a missing Oxford woman, and that of her dog, have been found by police divers in the River Cherwell.
CM Woodward from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue, said: “Often the ice seems thicker than people expect and can be very unpredictable.” The general advice is:
? Please do not attempt to enter the Ice to Rescue your animal
? Please keep the dog on a lead when walking them near know iced water courses
? Call the Fire and Rescue ASAP and give the best location details possible.IMAGE: For illustrative purposes only. Courtesy of http://petforums.biz

22/12/10……Scandinavian snow mover clears the way for market
THANKS to local company, Chiltern Fencing, working in partnership with Thame Town Council?s maintenance team, the Upper High Street area was cleared of snow to enable the Tuesday market to go ahead this week despite the adverse weather conditions.
Thanks to this partnership working between the council and this local business offering the use of its special Scandinavian snow mover, market traders did not have to miss one of their busiest trading weeks of the year.
Not only could the traders do a roaring trade, but Sky TV and BBC Radio Oxford were able to broadcast live from the market, as they explored how the snow was affecting local businesses and residents ? and as they found, a few little flakes of snow weren?t going to stop Thame from trading!

22/12/10…. Bin collection up-date
AS things stand at the present time, bin collections are due to take place tomorrow, Thursday, December 23 and Friday, December 24, for properties that have their normal collection on a Thursday or Friday.
As crews go along their rounds, they will assess whether it is safe to collect from individual roads and properties. If it snows overnight a further assessment will be made as to whether crews will go out.
SODC and Whitehorse DC say that they will do their best over the next two days to collect from properties on main routes, missed on Monday and Tuesday due to the snow.
Garden waste will not be collected this week.
