26/06/11….Thame 10K – Report & results (Contributed)
THE Thame 10km road race took place once again in conditions more like Trinidad than Thame. For the third consecutive year, runners braved a hot and humid morning on the course through the town centre out to Towersey and back along the traffic-free Phoenix Trail.
First place overall and winner by more than two mintues, was Steven Naylor of Woodstock Harriers in a time of 31:23, beating the Thame 10km record by nearly a minute – a great achievement considering the conditions and also that the previous record of 32:07 had stood for eight years! First lady home was Sophie Carter, from the same Woodstock club, in a time of 37:21.
The hotly contested trophy for first Thame Resident was won by Jon Hiscox of Thame Runners who finished in 36:30, just ahead of George Anderson and Jack Hobbs, both just over the 37 minute mark.
Other runners in the race included the headteacher of Lord Williams?s School, David Wybron, who completed the grueling feat in a respectable time of 55 minutes and being the perfect host allowing the event to take place on the school fields.
CPM were not only the key sponsor of the event but also a major participant with over 80 staff participating and winning the Corporate team prize along the way.
Nigel Champken-Woods, the town?s deputy Mayor, was on hand to start the Children?s Fun where over 100 took part in either 1 or 2 laps of the playing fields.Key category winners below:

24/06/11….WANTED – sites for beacons for Queen’s Jubilee
SOUTH Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are inviting all landowners in the area to come forward to take part in the Queen?s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
One lucky landowner will play their own small but significant part in this momentous day for the Queen, by hosting one of the 2012 beacons on 4 June 2012. Beacon locations will be listed in a special book for the Queen to treasure. The deadline for landowners to register interest is 21 August 2011.
The selected site will need to be on high ground and in a prominent location with public access, so as many residents as possible can enjoy the spectacle.
Matthew Barber, Leader of the Vale of White Horse District Council said: ?This is a prestigious once in a lifetime opportunity for the district and so we?re urging local landowners with a suitable location for a beacon to come forward as soon as possible to help support the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.?
Ann Ducker, Leader of South Oxfordshire District Council said:
?We are lucky enough to have such beautiful countryside in southern Oxfordshire, so there should be lots of locations to choose from. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring the whole community together and I encourage people to come forward to help us celebrate this important occasion.?
Landowners with a suitable beacon site can send their name, address, telephone number and the location of the beacon to the council by emailing communications@southandvale.gov.uk or writing to Communications, South and Vale District Councils, Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford, Wallingford, OX10 8AD.

23/06/11…..Thame butcher among Elite Award winners for hygiene
THAME butchers, Newitt and sons, are among the local food businesses to receive a special award to mark two years of the food hygiene scheme, Scores on the Doors.
Vale of White Horse and South Oxfordshire District Councils are giving thirteen awards to food businesses with ?elite? levels of hygiene, to display from June 17.
Thirteen food premises in South Oxfordshire and nine in the Vale, have been awarded Scores on the Doors? highest rating of five stars following two inspections in a row. This prestigious accolade has also been awarded locally to Hempton Field Nursing Home, in Chinnor.
Scores on the Doors is a national scheme that rates food hygiene standards in premises that sell food including restaurants, cafes, delis, butchers shops, takeaways and mobile food vans.
By raising public awareness of food hygiene and through the councils support, many businesses across South and Vale have made vast improvements.
South Oxfordshire has seen a large increase of premises boasting three stars or higher, which is a good to excellent rating. The number of five star premises has risen from 11 at the launch to 82. Overall, the number
of three, four and five star premises has risen to 443 from 290 at the start.Vale of White Horse has had a similar success with premises seeing their star rating improve to either a three, four or five star (272 to 402). The number of five star premises has risen from seven at the
launch to 71.Cllr Dorothy Brown, South Oxfordshire District Council Cabinet Member responsible for food safety, said:
?I?m so impressed that food businesses are achieving such consistently high scores for food safety. It?s testament to the hard work we put in to helping businesses reach the highest standards of
hygiene.?South?s elite premises

23/06/11…..Changes to non-emergency patient transport services
NHS Oxfordshire is asking for your views on the future of patient transport services. You may have used these services yourself, know someone who uses them or feel that any changes to this service may affect local people.
Patients travel from all over Oxfordshire for appointments at hospitals and other health providers. Many of these patients use non-emergency transport services – these are not emergency ambulances and may be single driver vehicles or vehicles designed for wheelchair or stretcher access.
If you would like to find out more about the changes, take part in the consultation or answer the questionnaire you can take a look at what is happening online as follows http://bitly.com/Patienttransport or contact NHS Oxfordshire on 01865 334641
Further information for editors
In Oxfordshire the current criteria for patients to be eligible for this service are:? you require continuous oxygen.
? you require a stretcher.
? you have a disability that prevents you from travelling by private or public transport.
? you have a medical condition that may deteriorate if you were to travel by private or public transport.
? you are having certain types of on going treatment i.e. chemotherapy, radiology or renal dialysis. These are called ?essential? journeys. In addition if you meet any of the above criteria, you may be able to travel with an escort, if one or more of the following apply:
? you are under 16 years of age
? you have significant communication difficulties, including learning difficulties, impaired sight or are hard of hearing
? you have a mental health problem that prevents you from travelling alone
? you have a medical condition that requires constant supervision for your own safety
? you require a carer at your destination.None of this will change, what will change is that:
In addition to patients who meet these criteria we have continued to agree transport for patients who do not meet the criteria but believe they need the transport to get to their appointments. In future we plan to ask a set of questions before a booking is made and the patient?s needs will be given a score. Patients who do not meet the score will not be able to access this service and will be asked to make their own way to their appointments.
The patient eligibility for the service will be assessed by either ambulance staff via a patient booking line or healthcare staff in treatment centres / GP surgeries / secondary care. In addition some of the questions asked will also allow the ambulance service to identify what kind of vehicle is needed ? e.g.
patient can walk on to the vehicle, patient needs a vehicle suitable for a wheelchair, patient needs stretcher transport. For further information please contact Judy McCulloch

23/06/11…Council to discuss changes to Thame housing numbers
SOUTH Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet will discuss changes to its planning strategy for new houses in Thame and the rest of the district when it meets next Tuesday, June 28.
Cabinet will discuss and make recommendations to Council on proposed changes to the Local Development Framework Core Strategy and associated documents that will go before the Planning Inspection before determining future housing and economic development in the district to 2027.
Cabinet is being asked to recommend that Council approve the Changes to the Submission LDF Core Strategy, the Sustainability Appraisal, and the Appropriate Assessment, and that these documents be published for the statutory six week publication period
under Regulation 27 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2008.Full Council will meet on June 30 to decide on the Cabinet’s recommendations.
The Planning Inspector, appointed by the Secretary of State to examine the core strategy, has concluded that some parts of the Submission Core Strategy are not
sound, and in particular that the council?s housing strategy is inconsistent with national planning policy. He has invited the council to make the changes necessary to address this issue, before the relevant parts of the core strategy can then proceed to the examination hearings stage of the process. The concern to be addressed is the reliance the strategy places upon a supply of homes from unallocated sites in years 11-15 of the strategy, to help meet the
council?s housing ambitions to 2027. The change the council must make is to put forward specific allocations from which this supply can be met.The meet starts at 6pm, and will be held at the council’s offices at Crowmarsh Gifford.
