  • 13/03/13…Thame?s growing Equipment Bank moves to bigger premises

THE Thame Equipment Bank is growing and growing. So much so that 21st Century Thame, the town partnership, has had to replace the containers that house all the hire equipment with two larger ones.

Thanks to extra muscle from an army of helpers from Chinnor Rugby Club?s Friday Club, all the tables, chairs, gazebos, bins and other equipment for hire to local organisations and residents, was quickly moved out of two smaller containers before the rain came down, and the container crane replaced them with two larger containers which then had to be refilled.

Any time now additional equipment, including staging, will also be available. For a full list of the equipment available and how to apply to hire it, visit the web portal, www.thame4me.org

  • 13/03/13……BREAKING NEWS: Sainsbury’s plan for Cattle Market refused

AS the news was breaking this evening that Pope Francis had been selected to replace the retiring Benedict XVI, a battle royal was taking place in the council chamber of South Oxfordshire District Council.

It was the people of Thame versus the Supermarket giant, Sainsbury. Supported in the main by the majority of the local agricultural fraternity, Sainsbury’s had applied for planning permission to demolish the Cattle Market buildings and Racquests sports club, and build a 3459 sq m supermarket with a ‘community centre’ building tagged on.

However, all council members of the district council’s Planning committee, bar one, voted to reject the application on the recommendation of it’s Senior Planning Officer, Michael Moore, reporting on one of his last cases before retirement.

Basically, the plan was rejected on the following grounds:

    A) The proposed plan went against the policies of both the Local Plan and the Thame Neighbourhood Plan, that require a mixed use development.

    B) The proposed design of the supermarket would be out of keeping with its surroundings and would therefore detract from ‘the character, appearance and setting in the locality.’ (next to Conservation area)

    c) The development would involve the loss of a sport and social club with no alternative provision (against the adopted South Oxon Local Plan)

    D) That the bulk of the development and general disturbance, noise and odour associated with it would negatively impact on neighbouring residents .

FULL REPORT TOMORROW – In the meantime, a recorded webcast will be available soon to view HERE

  • 11/03/13…..Thame Insurance business is Broker of the Year

A THAME Insurance business has been awarded the prestigious title of 2012 Broker of the Year, by a Lloyds underwriting agency for its skill and professionalism with commercial insurance.

“This is a great honour for us as there were other, much larger brokers being considered,” said Sandra Pearson, of Pearson Insurance Services, in Swan Walk, Thame

The award comes on top of another in 2010 from Stroud Life readers, in Gloucestershire (where Pearson’s were based before moving to Thame later that year), who voted Pearsons ‘Small Business of the Year’ for their customer service levels.

“We try to be different, by truly listening to our clients and not selling them anything!” continued Sandra. “We try to arrange the insurances they need at a competitive price with reliable insurers, and we support them with their claims.

“Sometimes clients have not taken a holistic look at their insurances and are paying for overlapping covers. We offer free reviews of insurance policies at any time but on March 23, which is ‘Make a Day of it in Thame’ day, we are also offering a

SINCE stepping down as a Town Councillor, former Mayor of Thame, Brothers Hair Salons Director, Adam Buckland, has put his new found spare time to good use .

He has spent his recent cold, dark winter evenings creating three extra large, red noses for his salon windows in Thame, Oxford and Marlow. The noses are based on the three designs for this year?s Red Nose Day and are made from recycled Aveda boxes and red tissue paper from their Christmas gift sets to make the flowers. Each flower is made from six sheets of tissue paper with picture wire as the stem. Adam reckons that between the three noses he has made over 600 flowers!

Clients and passers-by are being invited to guess the number of flowers used to make the nose in each location for the cost of a

  • 11/03/13….Crendon nets win against Thame Tornadoes

THAME Tornadoes netball team vs Crendon – 06/03/13 – MATCH REPORT – By Bradley Rose: Careful Crendon proved to be too strong for Thame Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Thame began the game the quicker of the two sides with their swift passing moves allowing them to take an early three goal advantage. This joy was short lived however, as Crendon hit back in remarkable style to lead 7-3 after the first quarter. The quick start had drifted away, and tighter marking was needed from Thame.

The second quarter began tightly, with neither team wanting to give too much away. Thame desperately needed to get back in the game, but solid defending from Crendon and poor passing from Thame left the score at 10-6 to Crendon at the break.

The third quarter began well for Thame, with Charlotte scoring a great goal. However, this was as good as it got for Thame as they began to slip behind. This meant that with only one quarter left, Thame trailed 16-9.

There were missed chances from Thame in the final quarter but some clinical finishing from Crendon eventually sealed them the win despite a late flourish from Thame.

The final score saw Thame defeated of 21-14.
