PAUL Stachura, well known locally for his entertaining cookery demonstration at the Thame Food Festival in 2011, has recently returned as manager of Connells in Thame, and he simply can?t believe the change in the local housing market since he was last here.

Paul, who spent six years in the Thame office, four of them as manager, has been working in another part of the business for the past eighteen months. ?When I left it was a difficult time for anyone wanting to sell property but now the market is fantastic,? he said. ?We are struggling to keep up with demand from people who want to buy in this area and urgently need more stock of all types, but particularly two and three bedroom properties on the Lee Park Estate.?

Commenting on his return to a town he knows so well, Paul added: ?It?s great to be back and I?ve already bumped into many people I’ve known for years. With so much more activity in the market I am looking forward to helping previous customers who are now ready to move home again and, of course, welcoming many new ones to the branch.?

  • 12/06/13…CRICKET: Thame Town settles for a draw against Banbury

THAME Town Cricket Club put on its best performance of the season to draw, in a tense game away at Banbury last weekend (08/06). The home side won the toss and elected to bat first and when they were 150-0 it looked a good decision, but some good tight bowling from George Patey, John Maynard, and skipper Mike Higgs, helped peg Banbury back to a competitive 227 for 7. Higgs finished with figures of 6 for 93.

In reply Thame started slowly but some good explosive batting from Sam Lachlan, Will Sutcliffe (36), Alistair Thomas (35) and Deon Laubscher (49) kept the visitors within touching distance for most of the game. However Thame eventually lost too many wickets and had to settle for a draw, finishing on 199 for 9 at the end of the match.

The Seconds had a frustrating game against Twyford Seconds, losing by 80 runs after a good start, and the Thirds lost to a strong Kingston Bagpuize Second team by eight wickets.

CHINNOR RFC, which is based in Thame, is 50 years-old this year, and is holding a celebration dinner for around 200 people, on September 14, in a marquee at the Kingsey Road ground.

Club spokesperson, Carol Bradbrook Taylor, said: ” The diner is intended as the major celebration of the club?s 50 year existence. We are hoping that we will get in excess of 200 people there, comprising current and past members and players. Partners are of course welcome.

“There will be an air of formality which will be kept to a minimum in respect of the after dinner speeches but we will try and maximise the chat time afterwards so that people can mingle, but hopefully we will manage to get over a feeling of the clubs past.

“We have tried to keep the ticket price as low as possible and the more people that attend the better chance of the night making a small profit. It is not intended as a fundraiser and just a raffle will be held.

“The President of the RFU has confirmed attendance and he will be the principal speaker. John Howell MP is also booked as well as the Paul Murphy, President of the Oxfordshire RFU. Other local dignitaries have been invited. The most important thing however is that we get as many members from throughout the Clubs history to attend.”
