  • 27/06/13…..Thame CC short of target at Twyford

AFTER their comprehensive win against Oxford Downs the previous week, Thame travelled to Twyford last weekend for a tricky fixture in the Cherwell League Division One.

The home side batted first and managed to get to 194 for 9, mainly thanks to their star player Afzal, who hit 64, despite excellent spells from John Maynard (4 for 39) and George Patey (3 for 43 off 14).

When Thame batted, several of their more experienced players made starts but could not push on against the spin of Afzal, who bowled unchanged from one end. Mike Higgs, Sam Lachlan, Ed Barnett and Gabriel French, making his Thame debut, all hit 20’s but then got out and Twyford eventually got their last wicket in the penultimate over with Thame on 133, well short of the target. Afzal took 7 for 41.

The Seconds lost to Cumnor Seconds’s, despite six wickets from paceman Cian Davies, whilst the Thirds’ game at home to Horley Seconds was cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch at Lord Williams Upper School.

THE Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust has launched an appeal to buy Meadow Farm, a precious remnant of an ancient landscape, brimming with colourful wild flowers and unusual wildlife.

Giles Strother, reserves manager at the Wildlife Trust, said: ?At a time when much of the countryside is under threat from development and intensive farming, there are fewer places where wildlife can survive. It is absolutely vital that we buy and save Meadow Farm. There are only 1,500 hectares of wildflower meadows like this on floodplains across the whole of the UK.

?Not only will we be able to conserve these irreplaceable wildlife habitats, but we will be able to share Meadow Farm with local communities and schoolchildren who may have never seen landscape like this.?

THAME Food Festival, now in its sixth year, is now the very proud winner of the Four Pillars Cultural Events and Tourism Award, presented at the Oxfordshire Business Awards 2013. Thame Food Festival beat off three other finalists, Ian Nolan Events, The Old Swan and Minster Mill to take the title.

Thame?s real food festival is hotting up with the biggest line-up yet of local artisan producers and a town dedicated to a day?s enjoyment.

The historic Oxfordshire market town of Thame is once again going all-out to lay on a landmark event in the food calendar when it hosts its annual real food festival on Saturday, September 28, 2013.

The food festival’s latest news letter reads:

“This year?s event not only brings the biggest selection ever of fantastic local artisan food and drink producers to town, it also sees an amazing street food line-up, great live entertainment and a packed programme of demos from local and celebrity chefs.

“This year for the first time, the whole town centre will be closed off for some serious eating and drinking ? there?ll be more than 100 stall holders lining Thame?s bustling streets. Visitors can sip and munch their way through everything from locally brewed ales and award-winning wines to artisan breads, chutneys, terrines and local honey, plus indulgent cakes, cookies and chocolates.”

  • 24/06/13….Look great and donate!

A hair salon in Thame has become the latest location for people to donate to the Sharing Life Trust Food bank. Brothers in the Buttermarket, have installed the food bank in their reception area.

Salon Director, Adam Buckland, said: ?Brothers are delighted to be the first shop to offer itself to Sharing Life Trust to help people support families in Thame who are experiencing real food poverty. The food banks are located at the Town Hall, the Library, Thame churches and schools, but they all have restricted opening times so with Brothers being open from 9am ? 8pm most days, it gives our clients and passersby plenty of opportunity to drop off much needed food.?
