  • 24/01/12….Transition Towns – Calender events for Haddenham In Transition

THURSDAY 26th January – Jan Talk; The Future of Farming, at the Rose and Thistle in Haddenham on at 8pm. People often feel that highly productive and efficient farming doesn?t leave allot of space for the friendly wildlife that we fondly associate with the countryside. It takes a complex and type of farm management to combine both aspects of good countryside custodianship. But this has been achieved locally on the 5700-acre Waddesdon Estate.

Alistair Brookes the farm manager at Waddesdon will explain how the estate combines modern productive farming with a high level of wildlife conservation. Making conservation part of normal farming practice helps to improve and extend wildlife habitats, improve opportunities for countryside enjoyment and create new wildlife habitats and landscape features.

  • 23/01/12…Market towns told to be ‘bold, proud and loud’

MARKET towns have been challenged to ‘big up’ their achievements as Britain?s top award for town community projects opens for entries.

Action for Market Towns, the national charity representing market and small towns across the UK, has today launched its 2012 Award Scheme with a challenge to towns and villages to be “bold, proud, and loud” about what they have achieved.

The 2012 Action for Market Towns National Awards have become a recognised quality mark for best practice. At a critical time for town centres and high streets, the awards offer recognition for the innovation and creative ideas which many small towns are using to survive and to thrive – ideas which could be implemented to help the recovery of other towns, villages and high streets.

2012 sees the Award scheme – now in its 8th year – extended to cover Scotland for the first time.

Chris Wade, Chief Executive of Action for Market Towns, said:

?We are really excited to launch the 2012 Action for Market Towns Awards, which for the first time cover the whole of Britain. Last year’s record entries showed that austere times can bring out the best amongst the self-reliant communities and businesses in Britain’s small towns. We look forward to receiving even more imaginative and sustainable entries this year.?

Judges will rate entries in categories including Environment and Culture, Social and Community, Business and Economy, and Partnership and Strategic Working.

Previous Award winners range from projects improving towns’ physical environment to the creation of business and community hubs, from a social enterprise helping disabled people into employment to a project to bring high-speed wi-fi to a small town.

Sponsored by CCLA and The Big Lottery Fund, the Awards give towns and villages an invaluable opportunity for national recognition and coverage of their achievements and their ideas

Full details including entry criteria and instructions are available at http://towns.org.uk/market-town-awards/market-town-awards-2012/

  • 23/01/12….Last chance to have your say on Thame’s future

THE final opportunity for local people to have their say on South Oxfordshire?s Core Strategy, which includes how Thame will develop in the next few years, is now close.

The inspector appointed to examine the strategy has published his conclusions on changes to the strategy and these are available to view at: LINK

The council is now producing a list of the changes along with a version of the Core Strategy showing the changes. This will be advertised from February 3, to March 16, 2012, at LINK Copies will also be available to view at South Oxfordshire District Council’s offices, libraries and one-stop shops to enable local residents and other interested parties to have their say.

This follows the draft conclusions note that the inspector published on November 30, 2011, following the hearings held earlier in that month, and the additional sustainability appraisal work carried out in December by the council on the inspector’s instruction, to test some matters raised in his conclusions.

This is expected to be the final opportunity for local people to give their views to the inspector on the Core Strategy before his final report is published. All comments received will be passed to the inspector for his consideration.

It is estimated that the Core Strategy will be adopted in early May 2012. However, if the Inspector decides to arrange one or more additional hearing sessions to allow further discussion on any matters raised, this may result in a slight delay to the adoption date.
